Treatment of Gummy Smiles and Short Teeth

Crown Lengthening Procedures are a subtype of periodontal surgery that are utilized for Treatment of Gummy Smiles and Short teeth. Lip Repositioning Surgery is another form of  periodontal plastic surgery that can help certain cases of Gummy Smiles.

In rare cases where the gummy smile is related to problems with jaw relations, jaw surgery may be needed to address the problem comprehensively. Each patient is evaluated comprehensively to determine the reason for their problem and based on that the appropriate treatment approach is selected. 

Crown Lengthening procedure is used to lengthen the height of a tooth. If a patient has a broken tooth or has lost tooth structure to decay crown lengthening surgery is performed to expose additional tooth length in the oral cavity for dentist to place a prosthetic crown on.

Additionally in cases where a patient has a short teeth in the smile zone and is showing too much gum tissue, Crown Lengthening can be done to correct a Gummy Smile and provide for better tooth size. Additionally in cases where a patient has a short teeth in the smile zone and is showing too much gum tissue, Crown Lengthening can be done to correct a Gummy Smile and provide for better tooth size. 

Most patients that need a Crown Lengthening Surgery, have this procedure done under conscious sedation. Patients are always anesthetized locally and after the initial injection the procedure should be pain free.

Depending on the patient’s specific situation gum tissue and/or bony tissue would be adjusted to allow for exposure of more tooth length in the oral cavity. Patient’s can expect sutures in the surgical site after these procedures.

These sutures are either removed by our team members or dissolve on their own.
