Periodontally Accelerated Osteogenic Orthodontics (PAOO)

Periodontally Accelerated Osteogenic Orthodontics (PAOO) is a surgical procedure that helps patients with thin bone get orthodontics treatment with decreased risk of bone and tissue recession. This procedure is also helpful with patients who have mild to moderate underbite or overbite and may eliminate their need for jaw surgery. Lastly PAOO shortens the length of orthodontic treatment significantly. 

Patients are typically sedated during PAOO surgery. Small perforations are formed on the jaw bone between the roots. In some cases bone graft is then added around the roots and over the jaw bone. The perforations put the jaw bone in remodeling gear thus making tooth movement faster and easier through the jaw bone. Added graft thickens the bone over the roots and allows for expansion of the dentition while decreasing the risk for recession and bone loss.
